Garbage Compaction Plant

Zweckverband RMHKW
Böblingen, Germany
10, 000 sqm

Garbage Compaction Plants are a type of residual waste thermal power plants with a complex industrial development through the design process. These facilities are located through Germany serving large cities and surroundings. Boblingen plant was to be located in a sensitive forest area which lead to protest and request by the population to create a design that respects this location.

The Government invited reputed architectural German firms with extensive expertise to a competition which Kieferle & Partner won. The approach was to break the mass into components and the shimmering facade was selected to reflect the forest around. Together with specialists a environmental friendly system was developed and implemented leading to only 1% of the residual waste remains as special waste. The overall complex consists of the plant facilities, administration and staff facilities.
